Tea Review: White Masala Chai

I really like blends. Whether I’m mixing my own special blend or buying a prepared blend, I like the fusion of different tastes and feels that you get from a hybrid of teas.

Recently, I came across an online tea merchant, Yogic Chai, which really caught my eye by having a large picture of a shirtless Indian gentlemen drinking tea. Hot.

I decided to go with the White Masala Chai, which is a combo of white tea, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and ginger (all organic, of course).

Until now, I’ve never had a white tea blend and this is a very different experience. When opening the bag of tea I was immediately hit with a burst of different smells – the strongest being cloves. I really liked how the white tea leaves in particular looked. Sort of hairy. (I don’t know what that means, but I liked it).

After brewing the tea according to the instructions (without milk or sugar), I had before me a very pleasant, aromatic and gentle smelling tea. I think I enjoyed drinking this tea much more than I anticipated. There are different layers to this tea, and you can taste all the ingredients distinctly but at the same time you know it’s a white tea.

The White Masala Chai is low in caffeine, but definetly a chill tea. For nights when I need to be getting work done but dont want the after effects of a high dosage of caffeine, this will be my tea.
